How to Read a Welcome Bonus Before You Claim

Check the wagering requirement first

The wagering requirement tells you how many times you must play through the bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings. For example, a 20x requirement on a RM100 bonus means you need to place RM2,000 in bets. Lower numbers are better. Anything above 40x makes the bonus very hard to clear.

Look for the phrase “turnover” or “playthrough” in the terms. If the requirement applies to both the bonus and the deposit, the total amount you must wager rises. Always calculate the total using a simple formula: (bonus + deposit) × multiplier. This gives you the real figure you need to meet.

See which games count towards wagering

Not all games count equally toward the wagering requirement. Slots usually count 100%, but table games like blackjack or baccarat may count only 10% or even 0%. If you prefer live dealer games, check the contribution percentage before you start. A 10% contribution means only RM10 of every RM100 bet counts.

The platform often lists these percentages in a separate table. If the information is missing, contact the support team before depositing. Choosing a bonus that excludes your favourite game type wastes your ringgit. Stick to bonuses where the games you play contribute at least 50%.

Look at the minimum deposit and payment methods

Every welcome bonus has a minimum deposit amount. If the minimum is RM50 and you deposit RM30, you get no bonus. Check that the amount fits your budget. Also confirm which payment methods qualify. Some bonuses only apply to deposits made via bank transfer, while others accept Touch 'n Go, GrabPay, or Boost.

If you plan to use an e-wallet, verify that the site lists it as eligible. Depositing with an excluded method means you lose the bonus entirely. The terms often say “minimum deposit via selected channels.” Read that line carefully. It saves you from depositing and then finding out you do not qualify.

Find the maximum bet limit during the bonus

Many bonuses cap the maximum bet you can place while the bonus is active. A common limit is RM30 per spin or round. If you place a bet above that, the site may void your bonus and any winnings. This rule applies even if you did not realise it was there. Always check the terms for the phrase “max bet”.

This cap affects how you play. If you usually bet RM50 per spin, a RM30 limit slows your progress. You can still clear the wagering, but you need more spins. Plan your session accordingly. If the limit is too low for your style, consider skipping that bonus and look for one with a higher or no cap.

Note the expiry period for the bonus

Welcome bonuses do not last forever. Most expire within 7 to 30 days after you claim them. If you do not meet the wagering requirement before the expiry, the bonus and any pending winnings are removed from your account. The clock starts ticking the moment the bonus is credited. Check the terms for “validity period”.

Set a reminder on your phone or calendar. If you can only play on weekends, pick a bonus with a longer expiry, such as 30 days. Short expiry periods like 7 days are risky unless you plan to play daily. Missing the deadline means you lose the bonus ringgit and any progress you made.

Read the withdrawal conditions

Also check if the site restricts which e-wallets or bank transfers you can use for withdrawal. Some promotions only pay out via specific methods. If you prefer Touch 'n Go or GrabPay, confirm those are allowed. Reading the withdrawal section prevents surprises when you try to cash out your balance.
